This Post-Show Talk is moderated by Scholar-in-Residence Charmaine Warren in conversation with Kyle Abraham, Alysia Johnson, and Destin Morisset. Recorded on July 17, 2026, following the company's performance in the Ted Shawn Theatre. A.I.M by Kyle Abraham returned to the Ted Shawn Theatre at Festival 2026 with the U.S. premiere of "White Space," a full-length work performed by 12 dancers that unfolds within an all-white environment, where the live score by renowned composers Jason Moran and Nico Muhly—played by two pianists on a single piano—creates a charged atmosphere of collision and dialogue between reality and idealism. Created by Kyle Abraham, one of the most original voices in contemporary dance, "White Space" premiered at Lugano Dance Project in June 2026, where audiences celebrated its "personal fusion of classical and contemporary dance infused with a hip-hop spirit." "White Space" examines the tensions of individual and communal belonging through Abraham’s signature blend of grounded, soulful lyricism and kinetic intensity. Developed in residence at the Pillow Lab in December 2025, the work unites an extraordinary team of collaborators: composers Moran and Muhly, visual artist Glenn Ligon, costume designers Reid Bartelme and Harriet Jung, and lighting designer Dan Scully. "White Space" is co-commissioned by Jacob’s Pillow with the Lugano Dance Project in Lugano, Switzerland and Montclair State University, Peak Performances, with the support of Dance Reflections by Van Cleef and Arpels.
