Inside The Pillow Lab: Camille A. Brown
4:19
Continuing her explorations of Black Joy, director and choreographer Camille A. Brown is creating a new work for her Company, Camille A. Brown & Dancers that launches queries into the possibilities of imagination—investigating the past to boldly reimagine it. While Brown has often disrupted our understanding of the past, in this new work, she envisions a creative space for cultural liberation through her lens—conjuring ways of being in this world. Inspired by the HBO series, "Lovecraft Country" (Episode: "I AM"), and the rhythms of the movie "Drumline", this new work picks up where "ink" (2017) left off by blasting us into the universe where anything is possible. Very much like Brown’s unearthing of Black joyfulness in "ink" and "BLACK GIRL: Linguistic Play" (2015), this new work features various dance genres and gestural language of the African Diaspora to celebrate the past and boldly push us into the future. "Untitled" includes original music compositions by Deah Love Harriott (keyboard; Music Director); Juliette Jones (violin), Jaylen K. Petinaud (percussion); Martine Moreau-Wade (percussion), projection design by Aaron Rhyne, set and lighting design by David Arsenault, and sound design by Justin Ellington.
