This Post-Show Talk is moderated by Scholar-in-Residence Ahtoy Juliana in conversation with Ephrat Asherie and Larry Bustamante of Ephrat Asherie Dance. Recorded on August 6, 2026, following the company's performance in the Doris Duke Theatre. In Festival 2026, Ephrat Asherie Dance performed "Shadow Cities," created in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning pianist and composer Arturo O’Farrill. Performed by seven dancers and four musicians, this work is a contemplative, raucous, celebratory reflection on the unexpected ways we encounter our most enlivened selves. In "Shadow Cities," the company moves seamlessly through the edges of light and dark, exploring themes of belonging, longing and the ways we find joy in the in-between.
