Parsons Dance

Summer 2024 marked 25 years since the last Pillow appearance by Parsons Dance, the internationally-touring contemporary dance company based in New York City and led by David Parsons, “one of the great movers of modern dance” (“The New York Times"). The return to the Pillow was a celebration of the company’s roots and staying power, the go-for-broke energy that Parsons dancers are known for and the vision of David Parsons: “to bring life-affirming performances and joy to audiences worldwide.” The program at the Pillow featured signature works including “Caught” (1982), choreographed by David Parsons, and “Takedeme” (1999), choreographed by Robert Battle. Program: “Swing Shift;” choreography: David Parsons; music: Kenji Bunch. “Takademe;” choreography: Robert Battle; music: Sheila Chandra. “Nascimento;” choreography: David Parsons; music: Milton Nascimento. “Finding Center” (excerpt); choreography: David Parsons; music: Thomas Newman. “Juke;” choreography: Jamar Roberts; music: Miles Davis. “Caught;” choreography: David Parsons; music: Robert Fripp. “Shining Star;” choreography: David Parsons; music: Earth, Wind & Fire. Includes introduction by Pamela Tatge and Post-Show Talk with David Parsons, Zoey Anderson, and Justine Delius moderated by Maura Keefe. This performance was filmed live on August 9 & 11, 2024 in the Ted Shawn Theatre at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Video by Nel Shelby Productions.
