Post-Show Talk: Doug Varone and Dancers

21:49

This Post-Show Talk is moderated by Historian and Founding Director of Preservation Norton Owen in conversation with Doug Varone, Ryan Yamauchi, and Madison Elliott of Doug Varone and Dancers. Recorded on October 24, 2026, following the company's performance in the Doris Duke Theatre. Jacob's Pillow welcomed 11-time Bessie Award-winning Doug Varone and Dancers to present a program in celebration of the renowned company’s 40th anniversary. Known for dances that are both kinetically thrilling and emotionally resonant, Doug Varone and his collaborators’ work spans concert dance, opera, theater, film, and multidisciplinary performance. Varone is celebrated for making essential connections and illuminating the complexity of the human spirit through movement. This program included "Lux," Varone’s master work from 2006 in which lush choreography erupts across the stage with relentless power and energy, and "No Matter How It Ends," which channels the restless beauty and quiet melancholy of Radiohead’s iconic album In Rainbows. Additionally, Varone returned to the stage performing "Three Nocturnes," set to three exquisite Chopin nocturnes. Video by Nel Shelby Productions.
